Film review : FairyTale: Story of the Seven Dwarves

We recently received a screener of animated fairy tale adventure FairyTale: Story of the Seven Dwarves, which will be at selected cinemas from February 13th and on DVD from February 16th, 2015.

It's great family viewing and we shared many a giggle as we snuggled up on the sofa under a blanket with a bag of popcorn. Any fans of fairytales, whatever their age, will love the crazy mix of characters from the classic stories and the younger viewers will have great fun trying to recognise which characters and plot elements come from which fairy tale.

When she was just a baby, Princess Rose had an evil spell cast on her by a wicked witch, stating that on her 18th birthday, she would be pricked by a sharp object that would plunge her and the whole of Fantabularasa Castle into an icy, century-long slumber. She tries to avoid her fate on the eve of her 18th birthday, but is accidently pricked by ... one of the seven dwarves (see? I told you they were all mixed up !). Poor Bobo's clumsiness leads him and the other dwarves on a dangerous quest to rescue Jake, Princess Rose's true love, who can break the spell, if only they can rescue him from the clutches of the evil witch and her scary fire-breathing dragon.

It reminded us a bit of Shrek, because of the mish-mash of fairytale elements, the non-stop gags and toe-tapping songs. It's one of those films that we put on for the kids but ended up watching all the way through too because it's great fun !
